TERMS & CONDITIONS

Please read the Terms and Conditions carefully and ensure you fully understand them. By using our website and selecting the box on our forms “I agree to the terms of service”, you agree to the following terms and conditions. 

 

TRAVEL

 

The volunteer is solely responsible for arranging and paying for their own travel, specifically including all airfares or other transport costs to and from the host country as well as any local transport costs. It is the responsibility of the volunteer to carry all necessary documents when traveling abroad. While Making a Difference in Uganda may advise the volunteer on required travel documentation, we are not responsible for providing said documents, or the absence of any documents needed. Volunteers are responsible for ensuring their travel documents are up to date and valid for travel.

 

INSURANCE

 

It is compulsory to have travel insurance when volunteering with Making a Difference to Uganda. This is at the volunteers own cost, and it is the volunteers responsibility to ensure they have chosen an appropriate level of insurance for themselves and their needs. The insurance must cover their entire period of travel with Making a Difference in Uganda.

 

REFUND POLICY

 

The application fee is non-refundable and does not guarantee your application will be approved. However, the volunteer is able to change details of the application including start date and duration of their trip after the fee has been paid. Program fees are not refundable. Program fees must be paid in full 30 days prior to arrival in Uganda or volunteers may be subjected to a late fee. The volunteer is responsible to ensure they have paid the correct amount for their stay. Any and all transaction or currency conversion fees are separate to our program fee and the volunteers responsibility. Placement is not guaranteed until the program fee has been paid in full. Making a Difference in Uganda reserves the right to change the fees at any time. These changes will not apply to applicants who have already been accepted. Fees are not transferable to any other person, however may be used for the volunteer in case of change of dates.

 

 

CHANGE OF DATES AND DURATION

 

The volunteer is able to change their dates prior to the commencement of their trip provided they give written notice 14 days before their intended start date. Changes within 14 days of their trip will incur a fee of $50USD. Volunteers are able to extend their trip once in country and can organise with a member of the Making a Difference staff.

 

RELEASE AND PERSONAL RISK

 

The volunteer acknowledges and accepts the responsibilities and risks associated with their agreement to travel to, temporarily live in and provide volunteer services in Uganda. Such travel and volunteer work can involve a certain degree of risk, which is fully accepted by and solely assumed by the volunteer. Therefore, Making a Difference in Uganda including any and all of its employees, managers, directors, shareholders, host families and host country partner organizations are not liable, to the maximum extent of the law, for any loss or harm the volunteer or associates may suffer, including but not limited to loss caused directly or indirectly by:

  • Personal injury;

  • Emotional injury;

  • Death;

  • Illness or disease;

  • Damage to or loss of property;

  • Hostage situations; or

  • War or terrorism.

 

DRUGS AND ALCOHOL

 

The volunteer will abide by the rules as set in place by Making a Difference in Uganda. Alcohol consumption while engaging at program is strictly forbidden and may result in dismissal from the program without a refund. Any use of illegal or prescription drugs (without a valid prescription) is strictly prohibited. This may result in the volunteer being removed from the program with no refund provided.

 

PHOTO/VIDEO RELEASE

 

When volunteering with Making a Difference in Uganda you give permission to use your name, photograph and video for any purpose including but not limited to illustration, promotion, advertising including web and social media. The volunteer releases Making a Difference in Uganda to any claims and demands rising out of or in connection with the use of these, including but not limited to any claims of defamation or invasion of privacy.

 

 

RESPECT AND CONFIDENTIALTY

 

Volunteers will at times have access to private health, financial and other personal information. All information is strictly confidential and must not be shared in any form.

 

CHILD PROTECTION POLICY

 

Volunteers may interact with children during their programs. Making a Difference in Uganda prioritises children’s health and wellbeing. Volunteers must not take photos of children without their permission, or in a vulnerable state. This policy applies to all staff and peoples involved in Making a Difference in Uganda, however Making a Difference in Uganda takes no responsibility for people who do not abide to the policy. Any decisions made in relation to children we interact with, will be made with full consideration of the circumstances and cultural differences. All decisions will be made in the best interests of the child’s ongoing safety and wellbeing. Making a Difference in Uganda has a strict non-discrimination policy, all children will receive equal respect and care. Volunteers should not take children away from the place of program unless given permission to do so by the program director. Volunteers should administer all medical care under supervision of a qualified individual. Volunteers should not act in ways intended to shame, humiliate, belittle or degrade children or perpetrate any form of emotional abuse.

 

LOCAL PARTNERS

 

Making a Difference in Uganda works with a number of local partners and organisations. Though we conduct checks on them and have a close relationship with them we are not responsible for any actions or omissions of any partners.

 

GOVERNING LAW

 

These terms are governed by the laws and Constitution of Uganda.
